Utah Foundation’s first Policy in a Pub event in November was a grand success, with a great crowd at Squatters listening to conversation about the election just a couple of days before. We hope now you’ll join us for the second in the series on Wednesday, May 17th at 5:00 p.m. This time we’ll be talking about education funding with three of Utah’s top education leaders: Sydnee Dickson, the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Heidi Matthews, president of the Utah Education Association and State Senator Ann Millner, the former president of Weber State University.

Utah Foundation research has shown that the state’s commitment to public education funding has diminished over the past two decades when measured as a percentage of personal income. Is there a need to raise additional funding? If so, how? What support is there for the effort now underway to raise the state income tax through a ballot initiative? Is there another way that wouldn’t damage Utah’s reputation as a low-tax, business-friendly state?

The event is free, but please register at this link so we’ll know how many people to expect. We’ll have snacks for everybody, but drinks are on your own. (Those under 21 are welcome at the event, but, of course, only those over 21 can buy alcohol.)
