Utahns have already weighed in on who they prefer to win party nominations and an astounding number of Utah Republicans prefer Ted Cruz while most Utah Democrats align their views with Bernie Sanders. New research from the Utah Foundation shows which issues are most important to Utahns and how those priorities have changed since the last presidential election.
Shawn Teigen is one of the research directors at the Utah Foundation and he sat down with Glen Mills on Inside Utah Politics to break down the Utah Priorities Project.
Teigan said they put together this report every gubernatorial election, or every election year when Utah holds elections for governor. With the help of Dan Jones & Associates they reached out to 800 people across the state and asked them to rank top issues from most important to least.
Research shows that healthcare is the number one most important issue to voters and will likely play a vital role in voting decisions later this year during the general election. In 2012 healthcare was ranked number 4 on Utahns’ priority list. In 2012 one of the top priorities was energy issues, this year voters are more concerned more specifically about air quality
