‘Don’t blame Californians for surge in Utah housing prices’ study says

If you’ve been wondering why Utah’s housing market is on fire right now, the Utah Foundation and local realtors have some answers.

KSL TV reporter Ladd Eagan spoke with a senior analyst for the Utah Foundation, a nonprofit research organization, who said that Utah is not one of the top ten states where people are moving.

“But most of our neighbors are,” said Christopher Collard. He told Eagan that one of the reasons for rising home prices in the Beehive State is that people don’t leave. Which, he said, is similar to an influx of out-of-towners.

Adam Kirkham, a real estate agent with Summit Sotheby’s International Realty added that Californians and others are used to higher housing costs. And they’re outbidding local buyers.
