Addressing Utahns’ Top Priority: Health Care Costs and Access

In 2020, as in 2016, Utah Foundation discovered that the No. 1 concern of Utah voters is health care costs and access. With the support of Intermountain Healthcare, we launched our 2021 Breakfast Briefing series on May 13 with a discussion of how we can better manage costs while expanding access. We covered cost challenges ranging from pharmaceuticals to Medicaid. We also explored issues related to the pandemic, as well as emerging opportunities to broaden the reach of health care in Utah.

This discussion featured a panel of experts:

  • Andrew Croshaw, CEO, Leavitt Partners. Andrew is a national leader and expert on health care policy, economics and value.
  • Sophia M. DiCaro, Executive Director of the Utah Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget. Sophia brings expertise in public administration and finance and on Utah’s population to the challenge of addressing state Medicaid costs.
  • Dan Liljenquist, Senior Vice President & Chief Strategy Officer, Intermountain Healthcare. Dan is the lead architect and Board Chair of Civica Rx, a nonprofit initiative to produce affordable generic medications.
