Young professionals set to host Salt Lake City Mayor candidates

With just a few days until the Primary Election the five candidates for mayor in Salt Lake City are making one final push.

That includes a candidate forum sponsored by The Society of Young Professionals- Salt Lake City.

“We’ll have an opportunity for them to register to vote, we’ll have them meet the candidates and the candidates will actually be talking about issues that are more relevant to young professionals,” said Director of PR and Marketing, Brianna Davis.

The organization has more than 850 members ranging in age from 21 to 39.

Most of them fit into Utah’s largest living generation, Millennials (18-34).

It’s a group that typically doesn’t get involved in politics.

In the 2012 Presidential Election only about 25% of Utah Millennials went to the polls.

“We are the biggest group and if more than a quarter of us turned out, it could have a significant impact on elections,” said Utah Foundation Research Analyst, Mallory Bateman.
