When it comes to clearing the air there are things we can all do to cut down on pollution. A new study by the Utah Foundation focuses on changes at home that can make a big difference.
Glen Mills sat down with Christopher Collard from the Utah Foundation and they discuss some of the things you can do at home to help make Utah’s air better for everyone.
Collard said one of the biggest contributors to pollution from the home comes from heaters and furnaces.
Good insulation in your home also emit less pollution than drafty houses. But the biggest factor is wood burning which he says contributes as much as 5% of the particulates trapped in the valley’s bad air.
Updating building codes will also contribute to better air but Collard said it’s important to remember housing codes need to be up to date as well. He said when homes are built they are meant to last for decades so if a home is not built efficiently then it will continue to pollute as long as it stands.
